How to Correct U.S. Foreign Policy: A Plan of Action

The United States has a long history of involvement in international affairs. While the American leadership has been a stabilizing force aimed at global peace and security, there have been times when we have been drawn into conflicts that were not in our best interests.

The 20-year war in Afghanistan and the farewell gift of $ 90 billion in US arms to the Taliban are one example. Videos can be seen on YouTube with Taliban wearing American night vision and holding American weapons.

I don’t know about you, but my foreign policy fun meter has been pegged for a long time

Other times our actions have caused unintended consequences, such as the rise of ISIS. President Biden has made it clear that he wants to change America’s role on the world stage. In this article, we’ll discuss five ways to correct U.S. foreign policy and make it stronger than ever.

What is American foreign policy?

The short answer is there is no answer.

What our foreign policy should be is a set of principles that guide our interactions with other nations. This includes military and diplomatic actions and, increasingly, our economic and cultural interactions.

American foreign policy has played a major role in shaping the current world order, but we have recently strayed, as I will point out shortly.

The United States’ engagement in World War II and the subsequent rise of the Soviet Union and the Cold War had a huge impact on international relations for decades.

But it is not only the military and diplomatic actions of the United States that have had an impact on world affairs. Our economic and cultural interactions have also had a global impact.

The United States is one of the world’s largest economies, perhaps second behind China, but much more trustworthy. Our country has been influential in disseminating its ideas to others. This includes the spread of democracy, capitalism and technology. But we no longer have a technological advance. Chinese technology is superior; Russia is very tech savvy. The two do not have the same restrictions that we have in a relatively free country.

America has also helped shape many aspects of today’s global society, such as pop culture and modern family life.

The biggest problem with American foreign policy that I have repeatedly pointed out is that we don’t have a clear goal. Ask your elected official what our policy has been for the past 20 years and you will probably get a different answer each time, or you will starve blankly.

The involvement of the United States in conflicts like Vietnam, Iraq (x2), Afghanistan and Libya has depleted its resources and resulted in unintended consequences, such as the rise of ISIS, BREXIT and the EU refugee crisis.

There are many factors that contribute to these problems, but a clear solution is to have a concise strategic vision that can be understood from top to bottom all the way to the janitor.

Everyone should know and understand what America stands for, including our allies.

Reasons America Should Change Its Foreign Policy

The United States has a long history of involvement in foreign affairs. We helped establish the European Union, the International Court of Justice and the World Trade Organization. We have led efforts to eliminate chemical weapons, promoted democracy in Eastern Europe and responded to humanitarian crises in East Asia.

President Biden has made it clear that he would like to change America’s role on the world stage, but a wise man once said that he no longer listens to men, but just watches what they do. were doing.

Here are some ways to correct U.S. foreign policy and make it stronger than ever.

  1. Develop a clear vision statement and strategy and share it widely;
  2. Improve our trade agreements;
  3. Reform NATO. Did you know that the United States recently staged a war game in which NATO lost six times to Russia?
  4. Stop nation building. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and waiting for a different result;
  5. Stop being the world’s police. Share power with a strong coalition of free nations;
  6. Stop foreign aid and start fixing our own backyard. We have major issues to resolve with health care, education, and politics at the forefront of my thoughts;
  7. Promote democracy;
  8. Stay engaged in global trade;
  9. Stay committed to the rule of law;
  10. Fix the faulty immigration system;
  11. End the endless “war on terror”;
  12. Reform our army. The current Joint Chiefs of Staff are not top players. This piece looks like everything that’s wrong with America right now and if actions are used to judge performance, we just have to look to the withdrawal from Afghanistan. A 5th grade main class could have planned a better outing.

Modern American foreign policy is confusing. However, there are some simple things we can do to improve it.

Forge new alliances and build stronger relationships with our allies. Restore the confidence we destroyed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Our allies and the balance of our interests around the world are what made America great. Let us not forget that. America is a country with a strong moral compass dedicated to peace and stability in a complex world. Let’s start living what we know to be true.

We must begin to tackle the problems of the international community as a collective force. Instead of acting like a lone wolf superpower, we can work with other countries to make the world a safer place for everyone.

Keep an army strong, focus in particular on cyber (perhaps our biggest threat) and continue to demonstrate force around the world without intervention – nothing wrong with letting people know we’re there with a big stick.

Finally, we must be more strategic in our fight against terrorism. By understanding that ISIS has been around for decades and investing in development programs that promote peace and stability in the region, we can help vulnerable populations so that they do not feel the need to join terrorist organizations. and handing over their children to radical clerics who offer “Free Education.”

It’s time to take a serious look at yourself in the mirror. Many of my friends who gave their lives deserve it.
