Surbana Jurong has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Japan-based engineering consultant Nippon Koei and DHI Water & Environment (S) Pte. Ltd., a Danish water and environmental consultancy to help clients build safer and more resilient cities and townships around the world.

The three parties seek to establish a center of excellence leveraging each other’s unique strengths to help clients set climate change goals and measure their performance, as well as secure funding to fund projects. of sustainable development.

Engineering consultant Nippon Koei has deep expertise in disaster prevention and renewable energy, having participated in major public-private partnerships in urban development programs.

DHI consults in 140 countries in the conservation, redistribution, quality control and flow management of aquatic environments covering rivers, reservoirs, oceans, coasts, cities and factories. It actively collaborates in joint projects with the World Health Organization and the United Nations.

The signing of the MOU has its roots in previous collaborations that Surbana Jurong entered into respectively with Nippon Koei in 2020 and DHI over the past 13 years.

Surbana Jurong and Nippon Koei provided technical expertise on the development of the 9,450 ha Clark New Town, a disaster management and resilience study for the city of Danang in Vietnam as well as a study on cooperation for the formulation of infrastructure projects between Japan and Singapore undertaken for the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

SJ and Nippon Koei have successfully integrated vast amounts of climate and natural disaster data into traditional engineering disciplines encompassing materials science, data analytics, AI, and digital technology. These have been used in flood visualization, seismic, sea level rise, and even landslide simulation analysis.
