The frequency of international searches for Vietnam tours has risen sharply since the start of this year, with people from the United States and Europe showing the most interest in visiting the country.

In early January, international searches for accommodation establishments in Vietnam increased by 42% compared to the same period last year and the figure rose to 86% at the beginning of this month, as the Vietnamese government announced its intention to fully reopen borders to foreign tourists from March 31, according to analytics data from Google’s Destination Insights.

Searches for international flights to Vietnam in early January rose 425% from the same period a year earlier as Vietnam resumed regular commercial flights after two years.

As of February 3, the frequency of searches for international flights has increased by 374% year-on-year.

The countries with the highest number of Vietnam tourism searches were the United States, Australia, Russia, France and Germany.

Vietnam’s aviation industry officially reopened scheduled flights between Hanoi, HCMC and Bangkok, Phnom Penh, San Francisco, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo from January 1 and restarted some routes to Europe at the end of the month. last.

The government began allowing foreign tourists under a vaccine passport program last November. So far, nearly 9,000 foreign arrivals have been welcomed under the program with several predefined conditions and constraints, half of them being overseas Vietnamese visiting their relatives.

Under this program, Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang, Quang Nam, Quang Ninh, Binh Dinh, HCMC and Da Nang are the only localities that foreign tourists can visit.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had instructed the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Tuesday to work with relevant agencies to announce a roadmap for a full resumption of tourism soon.

The reopening should take place no later than the end of April and ideally the end of March, Chinh said.
