Vietnam Airlines has launched cargo-only services.
In March, the airline operated 45 cargo-only flights carrying cargo from Hanoi and Saigon to Bangkok, mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore.
Cargo-only flights are operated with Boeing 787-9s and Airbus A350s, carrying around 20-25 tonnes of cargo per trip, which equates to a load factor of 95-100%.
This month, the airline plans to operate around 150 cargo flights only between Hanoi and Saigon and from Nha Trang, Can Tho to Hanoi. Regarding international connections, the airline will expand to 130 flights that only transport goods to Northeast Asia (Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong), Southeast Asia (Thailand, Singapore ), Europe (UK, France, Germany, Russia) and Australia. Vietnam Airlines’ cargo-only flights help maintain the delivery of basic necessities, as well as protective gear, face masks, emergency medical supplies and equipment to fight COVID19.
The airline recently carried three tons of cargo from Cho Ray Hospital, which consisted of specialized medical protective equipment, medical masks from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi as well as ten ventilators donated by Singapore’s Temasek Foundation to Vietnam.
