According to the national airline, the nonstop flight coded VN99 took off from San Francisco International Airport at 11:28 p.m. on November 29 (local time) and landed in the central city of Da Nang at 6:03 a.m. on December 1 (Vietnam time). .
It took the flight 15 hours 35 minutes to complete the 14,000 km journey from San Francisco to Da Nang. That’s about 3-10 hours less than it usually takes for transit flights.
Mark Chandler, director of the San Francisco mayor’s office of international trade, said he hopes the scheduled flight will increase business and educational activities between the two countries and serve as a bridge for Vietnamese visitors to the United States and vice versa. .
Vietnam Airlines operates two scheduled direct flights every week between Ho Chi Minh City and San Francisco and plans to increase frequency to seven flights a week once the pandemic is under control.
All flights between Vietnam and the United States are operated by Vietnam Airlines’ most modern Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
The Vietnamese aviation industry and Vietnam Airlines have been preparing for 20 years to open a scheduled direct airline to the United States.
