Quang Tri (VNA) – Representatives of the Border Guard Command under the Vietnam Ministry of Defense and Lao People’s Army General Staff Border Guard Department held a conference to review the three-year implementation of their cooperation agreement on December 11 in Huong Hoa District, in the central province of Quang Tri.

Deputy Minister of Defense Sen. Lieut. General Hoang Xuan Chien of Vietnam and Laotian Deputy Minister of Defense, Lieutenant. General Vongkham Phommakone attended the conference.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister Sen. Lieut. General Hoang Xuan Chien highly appreciated results of the implementation of the agreement over the past three years, thus contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability and development of the border areas of each country, stimulating the socio-economic development of Vietnam and the Laos, and consolidating the special friendship and global cooperation between the two Parties, States and armies.

Over the past three years, the two sides have maintained a regular exchange of information and close cooperation in the framework of joint patrols and sharing of experiences in border protection and management, the fight against crime, while strengthening the work of prevention and control of COVID-19. They also coordinated to conduct exercises to ensure order and security in border areas, organize border friendship exchange programs to promote traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two. armies.

During the conference, the two sides agreed that the border guards of the two countries will continue to coordinate to implement the content of the cooperation protocol for the period 2020-2025 and the cooperation plan for 2022 between the two ministries of defense, particularly in the fight against crime, illegal immigration and the COCID-19 pandemic ./.
